For better or worse, readers want trendy. Put vampire or werewolf or shifter in the title in you're in like Flynn. Or categorize your book as YA.
Sigh.
For the record, I agree with you.

Thought I'd check back in. I did a five-day promotion of a political comedy SPILL and had 233 downloads and now a couple of sales have come in. I am getting zero or near sales of any of the 9 works I have live at other stores through smashwords and am tempted to yank them all and place all of them on Kindle select. That would mean I could rotate free days almost constantly. I'm close to getting to final product on a book that will fit into the genre suspense/thriller/mystery and it has a strong Navajo presence so hope the easily identifiable genre this books enjoys that my other books don't will help it.

Hi Sunny, it may take a few days to start seeing sales picking up due to the freebie. So maybe in a week or so you may see an increase. But, unfortunately, it is not uncommon to see modest increase after going free. But hopefully, you will see something happening. Also, what a peculiar story about how your “Living the Velvet Revolution” essay did well. And like you said, if it is selling consistently certainly the quality of work has a lot to do with it.
